Barium Trithionate, BaS3O6

Barium Trithionate, BaS3O6, is obtained by neutralising trithionic acid with barium carbonate and precipitating by alcohol. It forms glistening leaflets of composition BaS2O6.2H2O. A little is also formed by the action of sulphur chloride on barium sulphite in suspension in water.

The aqueous solution readily decomposes when heated, forming barium sulphate.
