Barium Peruranate

By precipitating sodium peruranate with barium chloride, an orange-coloured crystalline powder of composition (BaO₂)₂UO₄.8H₂O is obtained. If ammonium peruranate be used instead of the sodium compound, a yellow flocculent precipitate, BaO₂(UO₄)₂.9H₂O, is formed. Both are decomposed by carbon dioxide, forming hydrogen peroxide, barium carbonate, and uranium tetroxide.
