Barium Peruranate

By precipitating sodium peruranate with barium chloride, an orange-coloured crystalline powder of composition (BaO2)2UO4.8H2O is obtained. If ammonium peruranate be used instead of the sodium compound, a yellow flocculent precipitate, BaO2(UO4)2.9H2O, is formed. Both are decomposed by carbon dioxide, forming hydrogen peroxide, barium carbonate, and uranium tetroxide.
